Samsung‘s Gear watches were some of the first smartwatches out on the market and arguably helped push the smartwatch idea forward. The first generations of the Samsung Gear watch have been square and the company is turning a corner with the Samsung Gear A. The new Gear A will be round and feature a rotating bezel that will essentially be your navigation tool. You’ll be able to scroll through apps, notifications and menus (much like the Apple Watch crown). The bezel will also allow you to zoom in on content and interact with games.
The rumor is the new Samsung Gear A will be unveiled at the next Samsung event where the Galaxy Note 5 is expected to be announced. The Gear A is said to be running Tizen 2.3.1 OS and not Android Wear, so that should be interesting to see how that works with the Google Play Store. The Gear A will also have the Exynos 3472 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and the Mali-400 MP4 GPU clocked at 450 MHz, 768 MB of RAM, 4GB of on-board storage, and a 250 mAh battery. Of course there are the standard sensors most smartwatches have built in. GPS, heart rate monitor, accelerometer etc.
The Gear A is a departure for Samsung and possibly a competitor to Motorola’s Moto 360 2nd generation (when that comes out).
