By now you are hopefully one of the millions of adults that went to the theaters to see Marvel’s newest movie starring the merc with the mouth, Deadpool. If you haven’t, be warned, there are minor spoilers ahead that will be talked about.
Entertainment Weekly caught up with Stan Lee at The Big Bang Theory’s 200th episode celebration and got to speak with him for a moment about his cameo in Deadpool. As per the ongoing tradition of cameos in Marvel movies, he was in Deadpool later in the film as Deadpool was going to the strip club where his girl, Vanessa, was working to tell her he was still alive. Stan Lee, in this wonderful appearance, is the MC of the strip club announcing which girl is coming up on stage.
Stan Lee did have a bit to say about what he disliked about his appearance in the film. “I wish I had spent more time in the strip club, they had me in and out too quickly.” It appears as if he wanted a bit more screentime than he got this time around. Personally, I was hoping that Deadpool would notice him and ask him what he was doing there but unfortunately they didn’t go that route. Even though Stan Lee was a little disappointed with his lack of time in the movie he seems to be looking forward to future cameos.
If it’s a Marvel movie, I’m there for it. Whenever a new movie comes out, I hope they’ll have a spot for me. I get such a kick out of doing it. The fans seem to like it. I’m going to tell you a secret, here’s the reason the movies make so much money: My cameo. A man takes a girl to the movie, right? They’re watching the movie and they bend down to get some popcorn. In so doing, they miss my cameo. Now the movie ends, and they say, “My God, we missed Stan’s cameo!” So what do they do? They run to the box office and buy two more tickets and see it again. That’s why the movies do so well, because of my cameos.
I’m looking forward to the massive Marvel lineup that we have coming out over the next couple years and seeing how they sneak Stan Lee into those films as well.
