iPhone rumors tend to creep up almost immediately after one generation is announced, sometimes literally the same day a new iPhone is announced. One of the iPhone 7 rumors that has been circulating over the past months is the inclusion of dual cameras on the larger Plus model of the iPhone. There were even leaked photos of the chassis and word from suppliers that dual camera modules were being worked on for Apple. But now it seems Apple itself is pulling the plug on dual cameras on the next iPhone. Why? Sources cited by Weibo say that Apple feels that the technology behind dual cameras is immature.
Another reason given as to why Apple is scrapping the dual camera use is Sony may not be up to producing the number of camera modules Apple would need. Apple has been known to scrap things in the past when it felt that the tech wasn’t up to snuff. Dual cameras have been in use on Android phones for some time and whether or not the technology is immature can be debated. Of course this is all still a rumor of a rumor anyway and Apple may have never even been talking dual camera use in the first place.
Whatever Apple is planning for the iPhone 7, we’re all going to find out everything we need to know in September when the company unveils the device. I’m going to sound like a hopeless broken record but I’m hoping for an entire user interface overhaul. Likely not going to happen.
