JBL Clip2 review: Ultra-portable premium sound

JBL Clip2

Overall the sound is the bees knees.

Ultra-portable premium sounding Bluetooth speakers are around everywhere, but JBL makes one of the best. Not only is the JBL Clip2 a tiny little feather weight, it also sounds great and has a few extras other speakers don’t. Check out our full review of the JBL Clip2 and see why this little puppy takes away a Techaeris 2016 Top Pick award.

Rounded in shape and made of strong rubbers and plastics, the JBL Clip 2 is a ruggedly handsome design. This little guy is IPX7 waterproof which means it can go under water up to 1m for 30 minutes. The carabiner is made from strong aluminum and is really great for clipping on backpacks and bikes. On the front is the main speaker and grill along with slick JBL branding. The top houses the aluminum carabiner which is secured on with a heavy duty rubber component. The LED indicator light is also on top just behind the carabiner.

On the right side of the device is the power button, Bluetooth button and Micro-USB port for charging. On the left side of the device you’ll find the volume up and down and the phone button to answer calls. Around the back is the integrated AUX cable you can use to plug into a phone or tablet if you don’t want to use Bluetooth. The cable tucks away neatly around the edges of the JBL Clip2 and it’s like it’s not even there. Overall, this is a very nice design, rugged yet attractive.

Ease Of Use

Bluetooth pairing is simple and straight forward. Power on the JBL Clip2, find it on your device Bluetooth list, and connect. The controls are basic…volume up/down, power, Bluetooth…nothing is difficult. It is very simple and easy to use.

Wow! For such a small little speaker this thing has superior quality sound. Even at full volume there is no cracking, or breaking and everything sounded perfectly clear. This is a balanced sound profile. The bass sounded great but wasn’t overpowering the mids or highs. This thing has massive sound for such a small package. Yes there are other speakers that are louder but not many at this price point and size. Overall the sound is the bees knees.

Reception/Call Quality

This thing is actually a nice little speakerphone. It’s a perfect size and with the carabiner it’s convenient. Reception is typical Bluetooth and starts breaking up just over 30 feet. Call quality is excellent, loud and clear.

Battery Life

Advertised battery life is 8 hours, and I got just above 8 hours with volume at just below half way. Your battery life will vary depending on how you use yours.

Completley worth the $59.95.

Wrap Up

Worth picking up if you’re looking for a small, ultra-portable Bluetooth speaker at an honestly great price.
